Governed Data Agent Platform

Snowflake Cortex Agents
Enterprise AI

Cortex Agents is a fully managed agentic platform for building and running AI agents inside Snowflake's governed environment. An agent reasons over a request, plans the work, calls tools, executes code, and generates a response — without you building or operating your own orchestration loop, runtime, or sandbox infrastructure.

Enterprise Capabilities

What Cortex Agents does inside Snowflake's governed environment.

Cortex Analyst (Structured Data)

Generates SQL over your structured data using Cortex Analyst semantic views — no separate text-to-SQL pipeline to build or maintain.

Cortex Search (Unstructured Data)

Retrieves insights from unstructured sources via Cortex Search, then reasons over structured and unstructured results together in one workflow.

Coding Agent (GA)

Add the code_toolset_all tool type to provision a managed sandbox — bash, file read/write/edit, grep, glob, web search, SQL execution, and skills — on the same runtime that powers Snowflake CoCo.

MCP & Custom Tools

Connect external services via MCP, or extend agents with your own stored procedures and UDFs — alongside built-in web search.

Evaluation & Versioning

Cortex Agent and Cortex Analyst evaluations let you control versioned configuration for scoring, with agent version targeting for controlled rollout.

Plan → Use Tools → Reflect

Agents parse a request, select and call the right tools, then evaluate the result before deciding whether to ask a clarifying question, call another tool, or respond — no orchestration loop to build yourself.

How Cortex Agents Is Priced

Billed in AI Credits per million tokens processed — not a separate per-model tier like a standalone foundation model.

AI Credits

$2.00 global / $2.20 regional per credit

Cortex Agents are billed in AI Credits per million tokens processed. Costs are additive across the underlying services an agent invokes — for example, a single request that calls both Cortex Analyst and Cortex Search is billed for both.

Access Interfaces

REST API: Call agents directly from your own applications.
Snowflake CoWork: Interact with agents inside Snowflake's own workspace UI.
Cortex Code: Generally available in Snowsight for in-platform coding workflows.

Implementation Approach

How we deploy Snowflake Cortex Agents for enterprise clients.

01

Data & Workflow Audit

We map which workflows need structured data (Cortex Analyst), unstructured retrieval (Cortex Search), or both — and where a governed agent replaces manual analysis work.

02

Agent Configuration

Configure the agent's tool set — semantic views, search services, custom stored procedures, MCP connectors — within your existing Snowflake governance and access controls.

03

Evaluate & Version

Use Cortex Agent evaluations to score agent versions before rollout, and monitor AI Credit consumption across the services each agent invokes.

Deployment in South Africa

Snowflake Cortex Agents for South African Enterprises

AgentAgency.ai is headquartered in Cape Town and deploys Snowflake Cortex Agents across South African enterprise workflows — with POPIA compliance, King IV governance alignment, and AWS Cape Town (af-south-1) data residency. The Draft National AI Policy published by Cabinet on 10 April 2026 introduces risk-tier oversight under the FSCA, SARB, SAHPRA, and the Information Regulator, and our deployment blueprint for Snowflake Cortex Agents is engineered for those obligations from day one.

POPIA-first architecture

Snowflake Cortex Agents workloads run against AWS Cape Town (af-south-1) or Azure South Africa, with purpose limitation and data residency enforced at the prompt boundary and full audit logs retained for Information Regulator review.

FSCA & SARB evidence pack

Model cards, decision logs, explainability artefacts, and SARB model risk management documentation — ready for FSCA Conduct Standard examinations and the sector-regulator oversight assigned under the Draft National AI Policy.

Local Cape Town team, SAST hours

Implementation, compliance advisory, and customer success are delivered from Cape Town in SAST (GMT+2) — closing the shadow-AI governance gap that the South African GenAI Roadmap 2025 found affects 85% of SA enterprises.
